Word Count

I added a lot of words to my WIP.

Dianne with bike

Took the bike out of winter storage and got some exercise.

Skype w GA book club 2

Skyped with a middle school book club in Georgia.

Troybery poster

Found out I was voted first runner-up for a Mock Newbery by the middle school students in Troy, Michigan. (Came in behind Holly Black & Cassandra Clare and ahead of Neal Shusterman. Woot!)

Made it onto a prestigious Florida state list!

Guest Room

Cleaned out a messy spare room and transformed it into a guest room for our cat, Luna. Just kidding. She only thinks it’s hers. This is for a foreign exchange student we’ll be hosting this summer.

Book Shelves

Cheered on my husband as he assembled and installed these shelves, including cutting the crown molding himself, nailing it in, and staining it to match the shelves. Then I put the books in.

PSLA 2015 Conference

Presented at the Pennsylvania School Librarian’s Conference with the KidLit Author Club

Books of Wonder on mic

Went to NYC to be on a panel at Books of Wonder with Michael Northrop, Paul Durham, Matt Myklusch, and Josh Lieb

    Wow! All in one month!

  6. That was a busy month! Your husband did a fine job on the bookshelves. And you were on a panel with King Tut? Not many can say that you know.

  7. Looks like you’re having some fun! I love photography. Congrats on the success of your book!

  8. Tonja Drecker says:

That was a busy blog vacation. Congrats on everything! And those shelves are gorgeous. I need some for a hobby room I’m creating, so I paid quite a bit of attention when you explained how he did it on FB.

  9. ChemistKen says:

That’s a pretty busy month. I did a little of everything, including some writing, but not as much as I would have liked. Good job, Dianne!

  10. Very impressive. Love your spare room – there’s nothing quite like getting rid of clutter and remembering what was underneath 🙂

  11. J E Oneil says:

That sounds like an awesome hiatus! I’m glad The Eighth Day is getting lots of love.

  12. Quite the way to spend a hiatus. ^_^ Congratulations on all the great book stuff, and I’m well and truly jealous of those bookshelves. 😛

  13. Lexa Cain says:

Congrats on all your accomplishments – there are a LOT of them to be proud of! And congrats to your husband for the molding. I’d never have known it wasn’t originally on the bookcase if you didn’t mention it. Have a great week! 🙂

  14. Hum, I think the foreign exchange student will be negotiating with Luna. That was a busy break!

  15. Cynthia says:

Thanks for commenting on my blog today. Looks like you’ve been getting a lot done. Writing, author events, outreach, exercise!

I bought a new writing desk recently, and I too cheered my wonderful husband on when he assembled it. The instructions made it sound so easy, but when we saw all the pieces and realized what needed to be done, I emphasized my appreciation for his hard work.

  16. Hey, Dianne,

You certainly had a VERY busy month! Just saw on FACEBOOK that you third book in the Eight Day is out! WHOA….. CONGRATS! I wanted to read the ARC… I’ll definitely do a review for it. You know how much I LOVE this series!!!!

  17. Wow Dianne, you did a LOT for someone taking a break 🙂

Congrats on all the writing panels and the discussions – especially with the school kids – (that must have been fun 🙂

Hoping May is as “quiet” for you as April !!

  18. What an awesome month full of fun and accomplishments! Love it! I’m jealous about you getting the bike out and actually riding it. I’ll do that soon. Maybe.

  19. Robin says:

Love your pics. Seriously, love them. I saw your bookshelves on FB (but I probably didn’t comment). Still, they are awesome.

What caught my attention on THIS post is that The Iron Trial won that award. I read The Iron Trial and wasn’t that impressed. Seriously, I struggled to get through it, and I thought to myself, “If there’s a sequel to this, which I believe there is, I don’t think I’ll be reading it.” So, I don’t know who decides these things, but I thought The Eighth Day was HEADS AND SHOULDERS better than The Iron Trial.

  20. I love this! I may totally copy what you did (of course, with my own activities. You have been busy with lots of good stuff, and I love it. Hope you have a happy May! 🙂
