The Year in Numbers

One of my favorite recent tweets …

2016 — Good-bye and good riddance.

Although it hasn’t been a bad year for me personally. Granted, it started off kind of rough, but if you discount the world and national news, it wasn’t all bad. Here’s the accounting of my year:

  • 1 broken foot and 3 weeks of immobility
  • 1 new release, The Morrigan’s Curse, and 1 paperback release, The Inquisitor’s Mark

  • 2 awesome vacations, Key West and St. Croix
  • 13 school visits
  • 17 Skype visits
  • 6 book festivals
  • 10 other book events (libraries, stores, etc)

  • 1 1/2 new manuscripts written (if I meet my end-of-year goal to finish this WIP)
  • 1 older manuscript revised
  • 3 awesome teenage girls in the house

This is my penultimate post for the year. I’ll be back on the weekend as part of D.L. Hammons’s annual Deja Vu Blogfest — you can join HERE — and then signing off for the year.

  1. Sounds like you had an awesome year…so that part shouldn’t be nailed away in some coffin. Great that you’re getting along so well with your ‘daughter’. The three of them look like they’re having a ton of fun. Enjoy the last days before Christmas!

  2. That’s a lot of book events. I’d say you had a good year, except for the broken foot of course.

It was a really bad year for me. I’m not going to go through all the details, but I will be very happy to get rid of 2016!

Looks like you had a lot of good things happening in your life this year. That’s great! I hope 2017 is even better for you!

  4. Tiana Smith says:

Hope you have a good Christmas and New Year’s!

  5. What a great re-cap of 2016! You did a lot great things–not the foot–but everything else sounds like it was fun and productive.

Sounds like the broken foot was the worst part of the year for you, so that’s good. I think it was a bad omen for the year as a whole, though. But anyway, have a good holiday season. See you next year!

Looks like you got lots done in 2016. How do you make time for sleep? Glad you were able to squeeze two vacations in there. Reading your post makes me feel inspired to do more in 2017.

  8. Wow! You have had a busy year! Congrats on all the events and writing.

I can’t wait to pick up the Morrigan’s Curse. It is on my Christmas list. I loved The 8th Day and the Inquisitor’s Mark. 🙂 My review of the Inquisitor’s Mark will hopefully be going up on our blog in January.

50 promotional events? I’m sure you enjoy them, but it makes me very glad I’ll never be pubbed by a big publisher. I’m not a traveling kind of girl, nor do I have skype or a smart phone. It’s probably a miracle I ever leave my apartment at all! LOL Your now-3 teen girls are adorable!

  10. I can’t remember another year being as fraught with disaster as 2016. For me, it began with news of my publisher closing and carried on through the untimely death of a friend, a sexual assault, two emergency room visits, a unprecedented falling out with two long-time freelance clients, among other disasters. I’m very glad my house is still standing *knock on wood*.

Here’s hoping 2017 is a much better year, although I cringe whenever I see the news lately. I may need to avoid it for a while.

Sounds like you had an overall good year writing wise!

  12. Hilary says:

Hi Dianne – sounds like you’ve had a really good year – despite the broken foot. The kids look huge fun. Good luck for 2017 … I have had the most awful year … so just hope 2017 brings some sense into my life … I’m healthy but very stressed … life goes on and I don’t get bowed …

Take care, Happy Christmas and New Year … and then let’s hope we can get some peace and understanding into this world and into my life! in 2017 … cheers Hilary

I think your year was glorious and I hope you have many more that follow. 🙂

That tweet is definitely right on point, and to be out of things with a bad foot for 3 weeks had to be the pits! Of course, you know I already loved your vacations, and family pics are the best. I’m wishing you and your family the best holiday ever! Hugs…
