I’m happy that the cleome (spider flower) is blooming now! People will stop thinking we are growing marijuana in front of our house.
Still waiting on the tomatoes though.
Hungry, Hungry Hippos have nothing on our goldfish. Sometimes they leap right into the air when you throw them food.
The pool is warm and inviting.
The purple coneflowers are in bloom.
Aaaand, the mint has gone wild and overrun the herb garden.
Meanwhile, Sorcia chases the shadows of butterflies.
Anybody know what this flower is? It turned up in my bed of wildflowers this year.
What does summer look like where you are?
My cleome are up too. I always love them, but never worried people would think they were marijuana. But I can see why you think so. I just started a vegetable garden again this year. Love it!
Hope you like mint!
You have a really cool slide.
I’ve seen that flower! I can’t remember it’s name, but I know I saw it at some botanical garden. I adore that Sorcia chases shadows, too. AND I love the pond. Beautiful summer.
Hi Dianne – could you meet me off the next plane – pretty please! What a gorgeous place … love the garden, the pool, the pond and m-i-n-t … good thing it’s useful – but impossible to get rid of … still good for new potatoes! Cheers – lovely photos – Hilary
What a lovely yard! And the tomatoes will come. They look very healthy. I have to smile at the marijuana. It’s rumored that one of the pre-owners of our property planted some in various places for his own use. Every time I think I’ve found one, the kids laugh and tell me it’s something else. They’re right too 🙂
My summer looks a lot like yours, except for the pool. 🙂 And yes, mint always takes over. That’s why we tore ours out years ago.
Back in the 70s, my aunt in Connecticut had cannabis growing in her flower garden. She claimed she didn’t know what it was and thought it was an interesting wild plant. Ha ha ha.
How pretty! And you’re right, it does look like pot leaves ;). And I so want to go jump in that pool. I am absolutely envious of you right now!
That pool looks like where I’d be parked.
The flower looks like Ratibida columnifera (check Wikipedia). It seems to be a wildflower we have in considerable abundance in south Texas, which we call Mexican hats.
Can I attach a photo? I shall try.
Nope.
Won’t take it. But trust me: they look the same.
Cheers!
Wow! You definitely have a green thumb and everything looks lovely! I need to hang out at your place with a glass of pink lemonade and dip my toes in the pool with a good book. (lol) Hugs…
I love your yard, especially the pond. We have one too with fat goldfish that hide under the lily pads. 🙂
Anna from elements of emaginette
That pool looks NICCCCE! I look at the pool longingly every day when I’m walking at the Y. I always have to get home and work, though. 🙁 One of these days, I’m going to say to heck with my assignments and jump in!
Wait, aren’t you growing marijuana? 😉
We have summer all year round. Actually, we have summer, summerer, and summerest. Occasionally we get a touch of spring too. I do miss the variety.
Our summer here in Michigan looks pretty much the same, except that I didn’t plant any cleome this year and the local groundhog is eating our tomato plants. We do have some catmint, so our cats are happy.
My cleome are up as well. I generally cherish them, yet never stressed individuals would think they were marijuana. It is by all accounts a wildflower. What a beautiful yard! particularly the lake. We have one too with fat goldfish that stow away under the lily cushions. What’s more, the tomatoes will come. They look exceptionally sound.
I’m glad no police will come knocking at your door, thinking you’re wild and crazy cannabis growers! There’s nothing yummier than home grown tomatoes. Your pool is awesome!! The mystery wild flowers look suspicious to me. Remember that Star Trek episode where flowers blew out a dust and had everyone from the ship love struck? They had flowers like that in the “Jumanji” movie too. Just sayin’…
Where I am, the pool looks inviting too, especially on warm afternoons!
Nice to see you growing things! This summer, things haven’t been growing as fast in my garden as last year. I am still a new gardener and am trying to read up on stuff like composting.
Looks beautiful! Our flowers are in full blast, but the garden looks a bit woeful. I actually weeded this year, but now I can see how small and pitiful everything is. Too many cold nights followed by this heat wave and not enough rain!
Love the pool! And the butterfly-chasing dog. My dog has a real problem with robins; they’re so bouncy they make her jittery.
What does summer look like here in Georgia? H-O-T and unbelievably dry. We’re in the middle of yet another drought, so a lot of the plants and trees around here already look like it’s the end of August. Lots of dried-up stuff everywhere.
Have you tried chocolate mint plants? It smells kinds like a Girl Scout cookie. That’s doing even better than our regular mint this year, which is looking pretty scraggly.
Looks lovely. ^_^ Makes me glad I”m not in Albuquerque anymore, else I’d be utterly jealous of all that greenery. But it’s all over the place here.
No idea what the flower is. We had surprise gladiolas at our new house. I love them. I think I need to plant a few more to fill in the gaps. Great pics! I love picture posts…
